Dental Crowns Yarmouth, ME
Our goal is to provide dentistry that is virtually undetectable. We replace existing dental crowns and fillings with restorations that look and feel like your natural teeth.
When more than half of the clinical crown of the natural tooth is compromised due to caries/decay or fracture, a crown (or new protective layer is recommended). A crown replaces the missing or decayed tooth structure, returning the tooth to form and function. Ceramic crowns fabricated by a laboratory/master ceramist are highly aesthetic, as well as functional.
How long does it take to fit a dental crown?
Fitting a crown requires two visits to our office. Initially, we will remove decay, shape the tooth, and fit it with a temporary crown that is resin. Temporary crowns fabricated by our office are comfortable and aesthetic.
On the subsequent visit, we will remove the temporary crown and then fit and adjust the final crown. Finally, we will cement the crown into place and you have a new beautiful looking tooth.
Key Benefits of Dental Crowns
- returns tooth to form and complete function
- aesthetic/natural appearance
What are the capabilities of crowns?
Crown and bridgework is a very reliable solution for major dental problems caused through accidents, extensive decay or wear and tear. Major problems can usually be corrected using these techniques. Material used in these repairs is ceramic (most often). Where accidental damage has occurred, resulting in lost teeth, or where teeth have broken away through excessive wear, or as the result of old fillings breaking, dental crowns and/or dental bridges can be used as a long-term solution.
Considerations for Crowns:
Crown retention is based on the amount of natural tooth present, the amount of space between the teeth, as well as the amount of clearance between teeth in the upper and lower jaws. In a case where there is insufficient tooth structure to retain a crown, or insufficient space in the areas surrounding the proposed treatment area, Dr Russo will advise as to the necessary steps to create room or retention if possible. Dr Russo will outline everything necessary to achieve a predictable treatment result.
Ceramic crowns and bridges are suitable in cases where porcelain veneers are not (extensive restorative material already present on teeth, caries that extends onto the back of the teeth, heavy biting forces, etc). In teeth with root canal fillings, crowns can minimize risk of fracture.
